Silly question - Installing ac boots
I just went and bought a bunch of the insulated boots in prep for re-doing the ducting. How the heck to you install these things?? There is no room for a drill, do you just reach up in there with a girly hammer? There is no flange etc that I can attach them with.

would you happen to have a picture of them?

Here it is. The larger ones I think I can fit the drill in with some gymnastics but the smaller ones I have no idea as there is no flange.

Ya the ones I usually get from the supply houses have flanges for nailing or to screw to. With those ones I just secure the boots to the pipe and make sure the pipe is strapped and secured in place.

Yes I was a little surprised that there wasn't a flange I am very happy with the quality so hopefully we can get them to work. I think what you are saying on the smaller ones connect them to the elbow and then secure the elbow to the joist ilo of trying to attach the box itself? And one more question if I may is okay on the larger ones to just screw them to the joist through the insulation?

If I'm picturing this right it should be fine but I'm not seeing this first hand. Just so long as everything is secure and solid in its final location. Remember to leave it stubbed out 1/2 inch so whoever Sheetrocks doesn't accidentally cover it up. Good luck. I still enjoy doing sheet metal and duct work, even after all these years of doing service and maintenance tinning is how I started out. It is great to look back and see what a good job you have accomplished with your duct work

Hmmmmm....fancy a trip to Mississippi??

Yeah I agree on the satisfaction of doing it yourself, no matter how small its always cool to look back and say "I did that"

Okay will forge ahead. Thanks for the quick responses.
