Should the return vent have colder air than the tstat?

Common sense would tell me the return should be the hottest, but that is not the case in my house.
tstat seems to always be 3-5 degrees warmer.
I have a ceiling return vent that is located by the tstat in the hallway.

Thanks

Is supply air being drawn into it.

The vents are in the bedrooms and den, but seems to be getting some of that air in the return instead of strictly the hot air.

Actually that is the perfect spot to have the T stat it will sense the air of the total house if it is ducted properly.

That's where mine is and it keeps the temperature of the the whole house the same, it actually senses the air returning to the air handler instead of sensing each room.
