Should I seal return air duct?
I got a new gas pak last year. The contractor hooked the return air duct to it using duct tape. When I went under the house yesterday I could hear air leaking.
Should I seal it up air-tight with mastic, or is it better to leave it leaky (to allow fresh air into the house)?
Though sometimes fresh air in a house is a good idea, from the basement or from under the house doesn't sound too wise. Mastic would probably introduce an uncomfortable odor. Get a water-based latex duct sealer from your local HVAC supplier if you can't get the contractor to come back out and do HIS job.
