Had a problem tonight that we had a small flame coming from under the furnace. You can see where flame burned the side.
We've had this for a number of yrs & it haven't been serviced in like 5yrs, Yea I know...
And that water was from the pressure relief valve.
Question is should I just have it serviced or replace it?
If it is in fact a boiler, can't tell because of the tiny photos. Just a bit of personal experience as far as having a boiler looked at by a professional. My boiler was venting a small amount out above the ?service panel? when I moved in. I shut it off until it could be looked at as I would like to make it past age 25. It took the heating and cooling repairman under 2 hours to do a thorough cleaning of my boiler (did not take apart the heart of the system though), adjust it, and show me how to flush the system. He found the damper was stuck closed, so it was only venting through a 1in hole instead of the entire vent. Also found out it didn't have any orifice on it at all. All this totaled at about $120 for 2 hours. I was more than happy to pay that rather than buy a new boiler. So definitely call and get some quotes on what it would be to check it over versus the cost of a new one. Even if they have to spend more than a couple hours on it, it may be worth it instead of a new one, aren't they a few thousand at minimum for a new furnace or boiler?
looks like a water boiler ( not steam) (Pics are too small to tell )I would have it checked. If the flames are rolling out of the combustion chamber , It could be producing co.Possibly, Combustion chamber sooted up, flue stopped up, etc
