Shop Heater Exhaust

I recently picked up an older Reznor XL 170 shop heater. I am in the planning stages of installation and was wondering if I can run the exhaust on a combination horizontal/vertical run. I am installing the heater on the gable end of the shop approx 12'from floor. The shop peak is 20' from floor. I would really like to run exhaust out gable wall instead of vertical vent through roof. The heater doesn't have an exhaust fan. Thanks in advance for your input. :whistling2:

That unit is designed for a vertical stack to provide draft to the burner chamber for proper operation. A short horizontal near the heater less than 1/4 of the rise is ok, but that is it.
