I am building a workshop in my backyard. I have installed a York Air Handler (F2RP-018) with 5 KW Heat element in the shop (24'x 32'). I was not planning air conditioning but was given a good Lennox Model HS18-411-SP condenser unit that I would like to install.
My question is what is the tonnage rating for the condenser and can it be used with my air handler and coil (rated at 1 1/2 - 2 ton). Would I need to change the current orifice (#53 in a 2.43 sq ft coil) to a larger size or switch to a TXV ?
I currently have the blower motor set to the slowest speed, would I need to increase the blower speed during AC season to prevent freeze ups?
Sorry for all the questions. Any answers would be appreciated.
Would like to re-activate this thread to see if I can get any responses.
I did find out that the condenser unit is a 3 ton unit. Is it feasible to hook this unit up to a 1 1/2-2 Ton coil ( not really worried about efficiency since unit would not be on for long periods) just worried that it would cause liquid to return to compressor and trash unit quickly. Would the installation of TXV prevent this?
Or should I just look for a 1 1/2 - 2 ton condenser and get rid of the 3 ton unit.
