Service Costs of Furnace Installation

mid eff furnace which is still available in the US is a direct replacement for yours and may cost $100-200 less in labor than installing any high efficiency unit. not much difference anyway.

The one sentence doesnt give the full context of the post. Doesnt seem like anyone would actually expect a $$$$$$$ quote without specific info. The % part still seems like a reasonable question, to me.

there is no % cost of labor and materials and cost of furnace involved as that would be 3 parts. OP needs to get proper quotes and not listen to urban rumours. what he is hearing is probably based on these scenarios:

1) basic el cheapo high efficiency furnace installed $3000-3500 in my market with basic no frills thermostat

2) good quality single stage high eff with good programmable tstat $4000

3) 2 stage with above tstat $4500 with high end touch screen or communicating tstat add $500-$750

4) basic mod furnace from lower priced manufacturers ( works but is noisier and has less features) $5000 add extra for communicating tstat

5) high end mod from major manufacturers (Cadillac series) $5500-$6500 and possibly more with communicating tstat

So IT ALL depends on the type of tstat and numbers of features and whether you want the malibu, buick or cadillac series of mods so it is IMPOSSIBLE to get prices and percentages of anything over the net.
