sealing around wood

I installed a portable AC with the exhaust going out a balcony door.
The plastic window kit for the exhaust didn't extend high enough so I used a piece of wood.
I am having trouble sealing around the wood.
I tried duct tape, masking tape, weather stripping tape but nothing sticks to the wood for very long. :-(
I am thinking of painting the wood for next summer (I don't want to take it out for long this summer).
I considered silicone but I don't think that will come off easily (I am in an apartment).

why not go to home depot and buy some sort of metal transition you can screw to the wood instead and then screw your ductwork tot he transition?...Might cost you all of $5, if I understand your post properly.

take a garbage bag and pull it tight around the wood and staple it off (or tape it to itself ) then any tape you want will stick . I just saved you 5 bucks

Awesome idea.
Maybe I could have done without the wood.
