RUUD HVAC Heat Pump tripping breaker

My HVAC unit trips the breaker after my fan has been on for a minute or toe and the compressor tried to kick on. I've heard it try once since this problem started yesterday and not since. The fan and run capacitor were replaced two years ago. I'm getting the 220 at the breaker inside and outside as well at the contractor. Any suggestions? Pics of the make and model are below.

Ok. This says I need five post before I can send links, so I can't upload pics.

Use Imageshack and put the links here.

Ideally you should call a Pro. If the compressor has a dead short it can burn out and create acid in the Freon lines and do some SERIOUS very expensive damage. If you know how to do electrical then remove the wires from the compressor and check from the compressor terminals to one of the copper lines from it for continuity. If it is grounded you will have continuity and it is shot. Weak capacitor can stall it also and it may be faulty again. Need a meter with capacitance feature to test it.

I agree with Yuri to hire a pro as an site person to correctly diagnose problem is the best way to go, but if the compressor (for any reason), is too hard to get running it will draw too many amps and throw the breaker switch. You said you changed the 'running' cap. There should also be a 'start' cap. This cap is responsible to actually get your compressor started from a cold start

Thanks guys. I have a pro coming out in the morning. I haven't had to worry about it the last week cuz it's been nice outside and not too hot. I'll post the outcome.

Ok. My AC is fixed and blowing cold again. Apparently when I replaced the fan and run capacitor two years ago, they gave me the wrong capacitor. It requires a dual cap and the one I had was a single. The pro that came out was surprised that it even worked for 6 months. $210 for the new cap and labor. I'm happy and cool now.

Please ask your cooling experts to check the breaker size

If it has not worn off , the unit label should list minimum circuit ampacity & max fuse or HVAC circuit breaker size .

If it had a dual capacitor , replace it with the same item or use 2 capacitors of the appropriate size .

Take pics of before & take the pld part with you so the guy at the parts place can match it up properly .

The definition of experience is what you got when you did not get what you wanted .

I have lots of experience .

God bless
