RUDD AC is short cycling???

Hi all.....I have a quick question about my RUDD AC unit. Recently, only in the morning and at night, the thermostat will click then the AC unit begins to run but will then shut off after about 5-10 seconds. It won't attempt to come back on for awhile and then normally does the same thing. Sometimes it will kick on and actually beginning running normally. During the hottest part of the day the unit seems to run fine. Any ideas what may cause this. I had a service guy out and he said he has never seen anything like it.....he did service the unit and said it could be the pump that pumps the condensate out isn't working right???

Thanks for any and all ideas and thoughts

Really, and you paid this guy? You let him do more work? You need another service guy. If he could not figured it out, original issue, I surely would not have let him do additional work on it, and not be able to fix the original complaint.

You need to call another company.

Ya I know.....I was at work and my wife was home so she just let him service the unit. Charged $70 dollars and didn't even fix the problem we called him for.

intermittent problems are the worst and if it did not do it when he was there how could he solve it? just like some car problems or going to the Doc. however it likely is the thermostat and that is something you can DIY. get a good Honeywell Focus Pro from HDepot. or wait until it does it all the time and call him back.

True but as a consumer you have to understand, and I am sure you do, that if I call for one thing then get up sold for something else that does not address the issue, I am going to be upset.

Problem here is after the upsell, tech feels he has earned his service call and the consumer is still stuck with a malfunctioning unit.

Any thoughts about resetting the thermostat similar to rebooting a computer. The thermostat I have is less then a year old and was purchased at Home depot....I believe it has a reset button on it

Thanks

what is the brand name. unfortunately some of them are Chineez junk. Only one I recommend for DIYers is the Honeywell. you can try the button but it will reset it to the factory programs and not likely help.
