Rheem vs. Trane A/C with Heat Pump

Just wondering what people think about the top 19 SEER model of the Rheem A/C with heat pump & the air handler vs. the Trane system?

Are Rheem ERV systems any good?

Not familiar with the Rheem unit. Is that the one with 2 compressors? And are you comparing it to a Trane 16i or 20i?

I find Rheem installers to honor their warranties better. I also like the professonal look of Rheem products.

Trane, at the moment, has a class-action lawsuit against them for "dirty sock syndrome".

The Rheem Platinum RARL-JEZ has the 2 stage system. I was comparing it to the Trane XL20i.

The Rheem systems have a real "commercial" look to them. They have 10 year warranties on most of their systems.

What is the "dirty sock syndrome"?

So do manufacturers now offer coated coils or is the problem still ongoing even with new units?

Not always. There are sometimes circumstances outside of the A/C that causes it to have bacteria.

I would get a coated coil and get a good installer who backs up their work. Some may even provide 5+ year warranties for labor.

vln: "Trane, at the moment, has a class-action lawsuit against them for "dirty sock syndrome".

Can you tell us more about this lawsuit and where has this been filed? I am unable to find information online. I have had issues with DSS (diagnosed by certified tech) that resulted in my coil being switched last summer. The system was only 1 year old at the time... new system, inside and out, including new ducts. My asthma, which had gone away nearly entirely for over 20 years, is back with a vengence as well as allergies. I'm sick all the time now from breathing this air. I've never sued anyone in my 43 years and I can state that if no one has started a class action for DSS syndrome against Trane, it's time.

I have an RARL JEZ model. Didn't know it had any platinum in it. Are you sure of the model number? RARL = a/c only.
