Can I tell how old a Rheem Gas pack is by the serial number or model number?

With Great difficulty. LOL. It is in the serial #. Post it here. Easier to look at the gas valve and find a 4 digit #. Ie; 9740 = 1997 40th week.

I always find the date code off the gas valve. Those serial numbers are always a pain in the azz.

The week and year are after the letter in the center of the serial number. So, 46th week of 2001.

Gotta love em. LOL. Lennox has the best/easiest system. 6399A. 63 = manufacturing plant. 99 = 1999 A=January. How simple is that.

Didn't know that. I never could get a date from Lennox.
So I will ignore the first 2 digits and the 2nd and 3rd are year and the following letter is month.

Thanks Yuri.

They don't use the letter "I" as a month can be confused with the number 1. J becomes September instead of I.
