Rheem Criterion Problem

I am trying to figure out what is wrong with my Moms Rheem Criterium furnace that is about 18 years old. The flame ignites and warms up, but as soon as it's time for the blower to start up it sounds like it's binding up. You can here the click and then an electrical humm. Would this signify a bad blower motor and how tough is it to diy? I am fairly handy on a variety of things. For the most part I would like to be knowledgable in what the problem is so if I need to call a repairman I can feel safer about the actual problem being fixed. Thanks in advance for any/ all sugestions.

Could be bad motor, relay, or capacitor. Turn the fan switch on the tstat and see if it does the same thing. while it's humming spin it with your hand and see if it'll start (this will be indicative of a bad capacitor) Check to see if it's getting proper voltage. Most gas furnaces are just 120 volt. There's probably a switch on the door so when you take the door off it'll kill the power to the unit.

Thanks wirenut, I will give it a spin at lunch. If it still doesn't start would it mean the motor is bad? If it does spin and it turns out to be a bad capacitator. What would you roughly estimate the cost? ($100 house call, 1 hour of labor?) The 2 green lights are lit on the left side of the board. Thanks for the fast response, it's fairly cold here in Portland Oregon and I don't want my mom to be without heat too long.

Not sure what the charges would be in your area. Your estimate sounds reasonable. The capacitor would be a pretty simple fix, the motor is a little bit more involved and expense.
