Reverse Cycle Chiller COP

Hi,

I've been reading about Reverse Cycle Chillers and it looks like they claim to be so much more efficient than a standard Air Source heat pump, even if they use a standard Air Source heat pump... Is this the case?

Seems like the advantage of the reverse cycle chiller is that it can reduce the cooling cycle cold air effect by utilizing the buffer tank. And you can over size the system since you will have the buffer tank to take and ration out the heating load..

But it seems like you are still going to get the exact same COP for heating that you would if you were just going air-to-air rather than air-water-floor or air-water-air..

Seems like they are banking on the fact that you get rid of the resistive backup heat (by over-sizing), and you can get close to that by using natural gas backup rather than resistive..

You an use gas back up on a regular air to air heat pump, and its been common to do so since the 80's.

I know. That is what I have in my house. You helped me put it in. Now I'm reading claims that a rcc can have a higher cop. But I think that is bogus..
