Return Duct

For a 24 x 12 inch return duct, can I use flexible ducting to re-route it?

What are my options for sizing when I re-route and would it put a major stress on the system if I use a smaller duct for a stretch of say 5-7 feet during the re-route?

Return Duct

Reducing a return air always has bad consequences if you reduce the area of the duct.
