return duct

Too general of a question. It depends on supply duct size, quantity, length, house size, etc.........

return duct

Way too general. At least 400-1600cfm. Return air is pretty much dependent on the Local or State Mechanical Codes, per sq. in. per cfm..

Velocity is not equal to supply velocity.

General question=general answer.

"just trying to get a idea....."
A rule of thumb frequently used is: "the supply air should be adjusted to obtain a minimum of 400 cfm per ton". SO, return air is, in a rule of thumb way, also 400 cfm per ton.
