Return Air

Hello All,

I have a 48MBXB-HW Air Handler by First Company. It heats and cools my main house.

The previous owner sent 2-6 inch heat runs to the enclosed porch which is only connected to the home by one doorway. The return air is in the center of my house.

My problem is, is that the previous owner sent heat runs to a room with no return air. Can I "tap" off the main trunk return air line or with this cause problems with the air handler?

My system does not have separate return air lines in each room, it just relys on one large return air in the center on the home (ranch house).

Thanks for any help you can provide. I just don't want to make the situation worse.

Yes, you can add as many and as much return air (ducts) as you want with only improving the systems performance.

Is the rule of thumb for a 6" heat run you need a 6" return air? That would seem most logical to me anyway.

Might want to install a transfer grill instead. Say a 6x30 so the air can get back to the central return.
