Dude. You HAVE TO HAVE THE JUMPER IN.
A group of hvac professionals are telling you how to fix it..do it!

Yep, they don't work in heat mode without the jumper from RC to RH.

Yes, I understand that, and that's exactly what I did. Everything works as expected now, so I am happy. Thanks all for the help!

I'm also happy to know that the instructions do not clearly indicate to do this for my system, at any point, so this issue was never the fact that I can not clearly interpret instructions.

That would be because they put the jumper between W1 & E, but most likely did not read completely through the instructions, and just flipped back to page 74.
