Replacing Lennox furnace

Lennox G40UH-36A-070-02. Technician peeked in small rectangular hole under blower (flame sensor?) and said a ring was cracked - showed a faint black rim. Supposedly leaking CO. True? Does the entire furnace need replacing?

Replacing Lennox furnace

depends on how old the furnace is,most 80% furnaces have atleast a 20 year warranty on heat exchanger while many 90% furnaces are closer to 30 years.
if the furnace is close to being up on its warranty or is giving you other problems it might be time to send it down the road.
if you do replace it get estimates from a couple differant guys .
most warrantys will be about the same on new equipt, youre paying mostly for a name and a fleet of shiny vans.
although im definately not a fan of lennox, trane, carrier or bryant.
goodman makes a good product, just doesnt look as fancy as some of the others.

Cracked rings are common on lennox although they rarely leak co it does have a20 year warranty on the heat eexchanger check the serial number the 3 and 4th digit is the year although the part is only covered not the labor could be costly I would look at replacing with a amana/goodman great warranty andthe heat exchanger is tube style and will rarely crack

get a Lennox tech to check it. the heat exchanger has turbulator rings pressed into it where the flames enter it AND they are sealed in with black RTV silicone which is PERFECTLY normal. sounds like somebody may be laying a load of BS on you. the other part of has NO rings even though it looks like it does. those are rolled in compression holes with no ring, same as in a boiler.
