Replacing a 2 ton A coil with a N coil with TX valve
 
I removed and cleaned my A frame evaporator coil. It has a capillary tube flow control. I have a N coil, (2 ton) with an expansion valve. I was wondering about the air flow through these. The A section has a opening in the bottom ,( upflow model) between the two legs, how does air flow over the tail coil panel? It is like this
/\/ The tail coil has no air flow, what purpose does it serve? Is air suppose to flow between the A legs and in parallel through the tail coil with a shroud like this

The 'N' coil is sealed and the air only has one way through the the 'restriction' so all of the coil is used.

Your link didn't work. I believe that when all is working well condensate will run down the side of the coil and into the pan. One would think the condensate would either fall off or blow through the coil but what it dose it runs down the fins and into the pan.

http://www.docs.hvacpartners.com/idc...1-20085-25.pdf has a picture of the uncased N coil. I believe return air follows two paths. Between the legs of the A frame and between the tail coil and the outer triangular shroud. This way all three faces are exposed to return air. I agree that the heavy condensate flows down the face to the condensate pan.

I guess I don't understand? You see the n-coil and the a-coil need to be on the positive side of the blower, not on the low pressure side (return side). As far as I know only a slant coil will work with the blower above it.

The return duct goes into the bottom of the furnace, through a filter,the blower, the furnace heat exchanger, and into an adapter plate on top of the furnace supply through the coils and into the plenum to the supply ducts. The horizontal adapter cover has an opening to the A frame coil so all air out of the furnace goes through the A frame coil. My question is should I add an opening in the support adapter to allow air to also go up through the the tail face and shroud? This way the air goes through all three faces into the plenum. That has to be the reason for the triangular shroud that forms a plenum with the tail cooling coil face.

You nay not need that adapter plate at all with this new coil , but YOU are correct you will need to open up that side of the adapter plate! I'm sorry about any mix up... j
