removing blown in insulation

Besides using a snow shovel, are there any tricks to removing blown in insulation from an attic? I would like to "suck" out the cellulous and use rolled in insulation. Should I abandon the idea of removing the cellulous and just roll over the top of it? FYI - the joist are 2x8 with 24" spacing. Thanks for your tips!

removing blown in insulation

Unless there's some reason to remove the cellulose I'd leave it and add fibreglass on top. If you do want to remove it you can hire a duct cleaner company (truck mounted vaccuum) who can run his vac through a dumpster to collect the cellulose, I've been involved with that but you'll have to check that the guy you get knows how to do it, it's not intuitive.
