Relocating furnace out of a bathroom

My house has a furnace...guess where?....in the bathroom.
What happened was the entire lower floor was garage space where the furnace was located. The previous owner took some of the garage space to build two rooms and a bathroom. Instead of moving the furnace then, they just built around it, so the furnace is now in a closet in a very tiny half-bath.

I am replacing the old furnace with a newer more efficient one. Since it's coming out, I want to take this chance to locate it out of the bathroom so I can enlarge the bathroom to a full, or 3/4. Is that something that's pretty involved to do? I want to move it either into what is now the other half of the garage, or put into an utility closet in the hallway? Any ideas?

There is no AC currently. In san francisco, few homes have AC because it never gets all that hot.

May be real involved, may not be. Can't see your house or duct work from here.

Make a drawing and post it.
