register size?

Is there any diffrence in flow between 12x6x6 registers and say a 14x8x6 register being that the inlet is the same?

Can you please explain the dimensions you used?

Most registers are dimensioned as Width X Height.

I don't know what the third number in your dimensions is.

As far as resistance to airflow, unless it is an extremely odd shape, the real factor is blade type, degree of throw, and whether there is a damper in the register assembly. It is also important that there is a section of straight duct before the register, which is sometimes hard to accomplish.

I see now, the third dimension you gave is the pipe diameter. Gotcha!

No, with the examples you gave there would be no perceptible difference in air flow provided that the transition from square to round isn't too radical.

The larger register will have less throw at the same CFM. Meaning a larger floor register won't throw the air as high. So you get less air mix.

A wall register may not throw the air as far, and end up not mixing as well at the far wall.

oh I see so stay 12x6 and the throw will be further the larger the duct same throw but more spread of air I guess. I can't go 8" on the living room lines but I could pull 7's off. Let me ask this though What if I have my 8" or 10" split into 2 7's but reduce them right into the exsisting 6' register will I still get more flow then?

Reducing to 6" just before, or at the register will tend to nullify the increase in duct size. The extra turbulence of the reducer right at the boot causes it.
