Reduce noise of air handler through ceiling

My air handler sits on the ceiling joists right above my master bedroom. It is very noisy to say the least. There are no isolation pads underneath it either. I know adding pads under it will help reduce the noise, but I want to do it right. How much quieter would it be if I hung the unit from the roof rafters instead? There are no codes in my area, this is a stick built house circa 1978 w/2x6 rafters. If the improvement is minimal, I'll go with the pads, otherwise I don't mind putting the work in to hang it.

Try the pads first, cheap easy fix. Check the blower wheel to see if it is off balance due to excess dirt on the blades. May have a off balance wheel from the factory and need a new one.

If you're going to stay in the house, I recommend hanging the unit with spring isolators. Don't forget to add an isolation boot between the unit and the discharge duct work too.

Is the AHU internally insulated? That will also help to reduce noise, but be mindful of heat buildup and duct area.
