Redlink THM5320R to a new Weil McLain EG gas fired steam boiler

Hey gang - I am at my whits end and need some help.

I just had a new Weil McLain EG Gas fired boiler installed for a single zone heat system. Of course the house is old and the thermostat is in an awful place. As a result I decided to install a new Honeywell Redlink Wireless system that uses the THM5320R EIM module.

I have tried every combination I can think of and either the unit doesn't get power or when it does and sends a signal for heat the boiler clicks but does not fire, the light turns red on the unit and nothing happens. When I look at the EIM the power light goes off when the red "heat" light goes on. It almost looks like when it sends the signal for heat it is breaking the "constant power" the unit needs to operate. Yet I swear I have it wired exactly as the manual tells me.

Any thoughts?

Post what wires are connected to it. And where those wires come from the boiler.

Sounds like its wired wrong. And that you don't have a true common connected to it.

Coming from the boiler there are 2 sets of wires: from the post on the transformer labeled "Y" there are a - yellow wire and a - black wire. THe black wire is labeled 24v thermostat. The yellow wire is labeled 24v operational. Then from the post on the transformer labeled "W" there is a + yellow wire and a + black wire, same labels.

When the old thermostat was connected the black wires were used and connected to the Rc and W connections. THe yellow wires were wire nutted off individually.

Touching any combination of the + and - wires fires the boiler.

THe Wireless unit calls for a connection into the R spot (jumped to Rc & Rh) for power, a connection to the C spot for 24vac common and a connection to the W spot for Heat Relay.

I have tried every combination of the wires possible and either it loses powere when the heat triggers (boiler doesn't fire) or it retains power, the heat triggers ont eh unit but the boiler doesn't fire.

bdsgad,

Could you post the wire configuration that worked? I just bought the redlink system for my boiler and have no idea how to wire the EIM.

thank you.
