Reconnect HVAC to Cooktop

Due to new countertops being installed, I need to reconnect the HVAC pipes to the downdraft vent on the cooktop. What I noticed when I took it apart was that the duct was sealed to the bottom shelf of the base cabinet and not connected to the vent on the floor using the cavity under the cabinet as a chamber. Is that correct or should I connect directly to the flange on the subfloor? Also, there were a bunch of 90 degree elbows from the cooktop to the hole in the base cabinet that did not fit tightly. Can I use a flex pipe to connect or should I stay with the galvanized? (The second pic is rotate 90 counterclockwise for some reason)...

Stay with galvanized. Grease will collect in the grooves of flex pipe and be a fire hazard. The grooves also slows down the airflow a lot.
