Re-routing heating ductwork

I have a small basement project adding two walls to square off an area to carpet. Unfortunately, I have an L shape duct that runs directly through the center of where I'd like to hang my ceiling. #1. is disconnecting this and moving this a monumental task, or is it something a relatively handy person can tackle? #2. I'd like to use a smaller size duct in order to fit it up into the rafter. Currently it's an 8 in. size. Would 6 in. lessen the air flow much?
Any input would be helpful. Thanks!

Yes. In order to change duct work around you need to be familiar with the way a ductulator works.
