Random HVAC duct in garage...help!

My house is a split level home with a retro fitted forced air heat/AC system. My question stems from a single duct that feeds my master bedroom. The duct runs across the garage in the ceiling and up into a wall duct. The weird thing is that there is a 15' wide duct below the ceiling against the outside wall. I cut holes to see what it was doing. There is cool air in there and there are openings facing up on each end but it is not connected to the rest of the system that I can tell. Anyone have any ideas?

Random HVAC duct in garage...help!

Geo...curiosity got to me so I punched some holes. Then I notice some air in there. The garage is a mess. Previous owner thought that old paneling turned around and painted was a good wall. I have plans to gut the whole thing...split out the back 1/3 for a home office and insulate and dry wall it up.

just haveing some fun no offense intended
I asume the air was moving , was the ac on if it was , was it the same temp as the supply air , or the temp of the room. most likely something very hack was done , the cavity space between 2 studs and sheet rock is being used as ductwork and that trunk is connecting 2 of these cavaty's if the air is return its wrong but not the end of the world ( air temp same as room temp) If the air is supply conditioned air ( same temp as the air coming out of your grills ) its a significant problem ,due to potential condensation in the walls (mold, rot) This is just a guess but it seems likely
