Admittedly, I am not an active installer/tech contractor, but am a wholesaler by trade and I am not versed on residential code, so do not profess to have any advice on that. The projects that I have been involved in all were kinda out in the sticks (in the county) and codes be damned for most of these I guess.
I can design and spec and run loads, but am not in a position to advise on code, but if I were you, I would just call the local building code inspection entity and quiz them. Really a better idea then asking those of us who may be speaking from our own local perspective and/or a national code and not specific to your rules.
