Quick thermostat question

Ok, I have a really strange problem and I was hoping to get some help from you kind people.

When my heat kicks on, my central air unit starts up. I have talked to people at work and they say this is normal. My problem is sometimes when the heat kicks off, the cental air unit keeps going. I can get it to shut off by turning on the A/C, setting the temp to turn it on, waiting a few minutes and set the temp up so the A/C will kick off. This turns the central air unit off.

Earlier in the year I had to replace my thermostat, could it be I have a short causing this problem. I have a Model #44155c Hunter Programable thermostat.

Any help would be appreciated!!!!

Also, I really dont use the programming, just keep it set at a constant temp. Should I just get a normal thermostat?

Quick thermostat question

Sort of sounds like the thermostat isn't hooked up right. Who replaced it?

And also, does your central air unit have a disconnect anywhere? I'd turn that off for the winter.

Quick thermostat question

Did it do this before you changed the t-stat? Also are you using an Air Handler for your heat and AC?

Quick thermostat question

I installed the thermostat, and I marked all the wires, so I pretty sure it is hooked up the way it was before.

G-Green wire
RC- Red Wire
RC-RH- jumper wire
W/B- copper wire
Y1- yellow wire

looking on the paperwork that came with the thermostat, Y1 is for a single stage heat pump, which I am confident I do not have.

just hooked it up according to the diagram:

G-Green wire
RH- Red Wire
RC-RH- jumper wire
Y/O- yellow wire
W/B- copper wire

Now it works correctly!!!

I wouldn't have thought to check if you wouldn't have said something. Just thought the guy that installed this before knew what he was doing.

Thanks again for your response!!!

Quick thermostat question

hi,

Am not sure if this is the right forum to talk about replacing our old honeywell thermostat (rectangular type) with this HUNTER model 44155C; and to use for our air handler (A/C and heat). Please tell me if I got the right item to replace. If not, can anyone give me choices ASAP? Thank you very much.
