Quesion about and old house and remote tstat sensors
I have an old house with oil powered hot water heating throughout whole house. I only use 2 out of 10 rooms in the house. There is basically no insulation in the house and all of the windows are single pane glass. I am not allowed to replace the windows or add more insulation so here is what I've done so far.
I turn off the radiators in the rooms I don't use. I figure its best to just heat the rooms I live in. I am in the process of plastic wrapping all of the windows so that should make a huge difference. The biggest problem is the fact that the thermostat is in an area that isn't used and is pretty cold. I am not allowed to move the Tstat so to work around this I bought a wifi filterate Tstat that I can remotely adjust from my phone but the setting downstairs will be say 55* in the winter and the upstairs rooms will be 80* and I have to physically monitor the temp all the time. What I'm looking for is advice on the feasibility of installing a Tstat with some sort of remote sensors so I can keep the Tstat downstairs and have it only monitor 2 rooms and kick on the heat at specified temperatures in only those rooms. I know Honeywell makes something like this but it's pretty pricey. Anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks for the help.... |

Slightly cheaper then a honeywell.... Venstar Wireless Residential Thermostat Combo - T1100RF
This would be a good option for you. The receiver goes where your current thermostat is and the wireless stat can be moved to where you want the temperature read.
