Programmable Thermostat/Old furnace


I recently purchased a small home with a 30+ year old gas furnace, I was recently given a programmable thermostat as my friend upgraded & gave me his old one, I am wondering if this would be compatable with such an old furnace, or if it doesnt matter?

Are they both 12 volt units?
