Pressure Switch Problem? American Standard Pack Unit

I'm hoping someone can help. We've tried to turn on our heat (flipped from cool to heat on central air conditioner), but it is not working. The central air works perfectly. But when we flip it over to heat, we just hear the normal "click", but nothing else. No sound of the heater "burning" and no fan. We've got a repairman coming out on Tuesday but I'm hoping someone here can help before then. The unit is a American Standard "pack unit" (one that has the air conditioner and heater in the same box outside the house). It's only a little over 5 years old... just out of warranty. We just went outside and looked at it and the light is flashing 3 times, which indicates it's a "Pressure Switch Problem". The heat is run on natural gas if that makes a difference. Is this a complicated (read: expensive) problem? How much can I expect to pay to have this repaired? Or is it a simple fix that we can do ourselves? Any ideas? Thanks so much for any ideas you may have.

If your inducer motor is hot to the touch but not running you more than likely have a burned out motor. The inducer motor comes in one whole kit not just the motor.

if you go outside and the heat is calling from the stat, the first thing you will hear is the induced draft motor running....and your getting a failure for pressure switch it could be the switch or the sensing tube for it from the motor chamber discharge.if the IDM is running put your hand over the discharge blowing out (then remove it) this might short cycle the switch and kick the heat on.if you want pop the panel and viewing the pressure switch tap it with the end of a screwdriver while the IDM is on.........something? .......nothing take a small piece (3")of thin wire stripped at both ends, and jump the 2 terminals on it(presure switch) heat sparks and lights the pressure switch is blocked or shot.POWER OFF ON THE UNIT....there should be tubes coming out of it,and blowing into them should cycle with a click from this the first time using the heat since last winter or what/when did it heat OK last.

While it could be something simple.

Its also possible that it is something more serious.

You may be able to fiddle with it, and get it to start heating again. But, it may onlt work for a couple days and quit again. Then you will have to call for another service appointment, and wait however many days again for heat. And it could be a lot colder outside.

It could be a heat exchanger problem, which is very serious.

Let a tech check it out, so you and your family can sleep safely at night, and wake up in the morning.
