oven exhaust fan

I'm replacing my exhaust fan for the oven so I can vent it outside. My oven isn't on a outside wall. I had planned on running a 3 by 10 vent straight up thru the cupaboard, us a right angle boot to a round duct and run that across the cupboards (8 feet) to the outside wall.

My question is what size would you want the round vent at? a 3*10 vent is 30 sq inches, to get the same in a round vent I would have to go to a 6 inch vent. Thats big, too big for me, I would perfer a 4 or 5 inch vent.

oven exhaust fan

It depends on how much air the fan is capable of moving.
6 inch would be nice, but if it's just a regular range hood, 5 inch on an 8 foot run will do just fine.
Not 4 inch.
Why is a 6 inch too big?
Remember to pull an insulation sleeve over it.

Wow, i just spoke to god!

oven exhaust fan

Its just a average fan, 220 cfm. I'm running the round exhaust tube across the top of my cupboards. I'm hoping to be able to box it in with 6 inch pine. Only finding good round 4 and 5 inch exhaust hoods for the outside of the house. These are the metal ones, that help prevents wind from getting in. They come out of the house then bend down slightly and have a ball inside so when the wind does come, ithe ball will get pushed against the opening. The wall faces the north where we get strong winds at times in the winter.

I was mistaken about the pipe size. The store only has 6 inch left in stock. I suspose thats the best and what I will use. For some reason it seems big to me
