Only 4 of 5 burners light on my furnace

I have a 12 year old Comfortmaker gas furnace.

It operated fine all last winter.

When I went to fire it up the first time today, only 4 of the 5 burners light off (burners 2 thru 5 when counting from where the gas enters the manifold).

The ignitor is in front of burner 5, the ignition sensor is in front of burner 1.

Because burner 1 never lights, there is no ignition feedback and after 15 or 20 seconds the gas valve closes. It will retry about 4 times before going into a soft lockout because of the failed ignition.

I don't see any obvious blocakges in the burner nozzles.

Any thoughts on how to proceed?

Check the gas pressure and clean the burners.

you said burner nozzle but what about the manifld fitting that feed that #1 buners track..pop out the burner spider or bug is blocking the gas into it...box end wrench soft tap loosen it,and finger tight back in with a tweek from the box wrench to tighten it...mine as well check them all ...wire brush the ignition track along the burners...except for 1 and 5 all others are the same when you pull them out

Usually a bit of debris in the crossover between the burners that are burning and the one that is not.

I pulled the burner manifold fitting and verified it was clean.

I also adjusted the pressure and no joy.

I'm thinking there is something to How's response - I can see the flame on the crossover between all the other burners but it is non-existent between burner 2 and burner 1.

I'm going to try and clean that up, but if you have any specific things to look for there, please let me know.

Pull the burner that isn't lighting and the one beside it that is. Look for a thin slot on eitherside of the burners that allows the burner flame to travel from one to the next.. A metal strip from a tin can is thin enough to use as a tool to clear out any debris. If you are unable to remove the burners, you can bend your metal tool into a "U" and still may be able to clear them.

So what pressure do you now have it set to? You did use a manometer to adjust it right.

Pulled the burner assembly and cleaned the crossover assemblies. Started up just fine after that. Thanks for all the help.
