Only 1 thermostat triggers boiler...

Need some help figuring out why only 1 thermostat will open damper and start pump and burner. This is a 4 zone hot water heating system with 1 pump. The control board zone lights go green when the thermostat calls for it, except the zone 4 light and that is the only one that will trigger all the events. ??
Thx. in advance.

Thanks for replying, I can't see the manufacture's name on the panel but everything else is Honeywell, Zone Valve is V804361018. The boiler is a Saturn Super Hot and the number on the control board is LR 8513. Hope this is enough info.

Isn't that a 4 wire zone valve.

Make sure its getting 24 volts.

Yes, it is a 4 wire, 2 red (end switch) and 2 yellow (motor). I will check for 24 volts at valve.
thx., bill

Just checked reds and yellows with boiler on. Not getting 24 volts between either, .17 at reds. The only zone that will make the boiler go is that one??? All others open their valves when asked but won't start the boiler.

The reds won't show voltage when the zone valve is open, if its working right.

If the zone valve is open, and the reds show voltage(24 volts) then the end switch is not closing. Usually a bad switch when that happens. And they are replaceable.

You want to check the 3 that don't turn on the boiler. When the thermostat has them open, but the boiler isn't running.

Just checked all the reds where they join to a black and a white. No volts with only zone 3 calling for heat and no damper, etc. working. Same with the yellows off of that valve. As soon as I bump Zone 4 thermo. it all works ???
thanks again, Bill

Ok, so your not getting voltage tot eh yellow wires of the zone valves either then?

If not, check to see if you are getting voltage back from the stat of those zones.

Check for a loose wire on the yellows of those zones.

Did not get 24 volts at yellow back from stat, but the voltage there is enough to open the zone valve when asked. Yellow light for that zone is on but he and the other 2 do not trigger the events, only Zone 4. It also appears that the light on the board for zone 4 is on but very dim ??? Is the control board an issue ?

Thanks, Bill

If the zone valve is opening. And the red wires aren't sending control voltage back to run the circ. Then its the micro switch in the zone valve motor housing.

So if I read you correctly it must be the end switch ? Solution would be to replace at least 1 of the offending valves and see if that cures it? I also noticed that the 3 valves not triggering have hot motors while the zone 4 guy is noticeably cooler ???

The 3 not running the circ, have probably been powered for a lot longer then the one that does run the circ.

The switch in the housing is replaceable. You don't have to replace the entire valve.

I just noticed that the board on the damper was not calling for heat. I checked zone 4 stat and it was below setpoint (asking for heat ) but the valve was closed. The plug in connector on the board was my next thought. I unplugged and plugged back in, the damper motor started to move and the green lights came on. At first the boiler did not light but the pump did start. Is there a timer ( or delay ) on that board for the damper? It all worked but again relying on zone 4 stat. Replace all the end switches and see or does this latest info provoke other ideas? By the way, the whole system is about 16 years old I think.
