Old Oil Furnace Supply Lines

We moved into our home about 5 years and have since replaced the oil furnace with a HE gas furnace. The furnace was fed from an oil tank in our basement with overhead copper lines. After it was removed, I discovered a pair of copper lines previously cut off at the concrete floor. I have since located where the two lines come in through the basement wall then disappear in the floor. There was apparently a previously buried oil tank outside somewhere.

Where the two lines were cut, some oil staining is on the concrete floor. I believe they are seeping old oil, although very slowly. Is there a good way to make sure they are fully drained and permanently sealed at both ends?

the tank outside buried in the ground is all yours, also what was the status when you changed to gas?if you dipe the tank and see oil there you might consider having it pumped out and get those lines emptied out...if you ever go to sell that place and a buyers engineer inspection is done that could become a nightmare with selling the house.

The longer you leave that old tank in the ground, and if it is leaking oil into the ground the more expensive it gets to remove the old soil and eliminate the environmental problem. I would get it checked soon.
