old Miller heating furnace won't ignite gas

I have an old Miller heater furnace in which the igniter won't ignite to light the gas. I know the ignitor is fine because that has been replaced. Everything else on the heater starts up fine like the blower motor and I hear a clicking noise when the gas comes on. It uses a Robertshaw Ignition Control Model No. HS780. I already removed the ignition control assuming that's what the problem is. The average price even on e-bay is $85 and money here is a bit tight so I thought I'd ask if that is more than likely the problem before spending the money for a new one?

If the ignitor is working properly then check the gas valve.

No that's pretty much the problem that the ignitor won't light.

Why was the first ignitor replaced?

What is the voltage going into the ignitor?

It was replaced because it was obviously broken. I mean cracked and crumbling to pieces. Here's a pic from e-bay of the exact ignition control for my heater. I wouldn't know how to find anymore specs for the heater so I hope the voltage amounts on the igniton control are what you're asking for.

Have you put a volt meter on the leads to the igniter to see if it is getting power?

No. I don't have a volt meter.

To properly find out what's wrong you need to be able to read voltage, other than that you are just guessing.

the first sound when the stat calls is the spark going to ground trying to light the pilot do see a spark arc'ing and then do you smell any gas around the pilot area.make sure the dial...valve(off/pilot/on) on the main gas valve is in the ON positionit. cycle..spark on... pilot...spark off...main burner on.. then fan ON after heat-x heats up

You mean a spark inside the thermostat? If so then yes it does spark when turned on. And yes the gas is coming out. Just the ignitor doesn't heat up to light the gas. I think I'll have to just take a shot and replace the ignition control.

An inexpensive volt meter can test this.

I'll see if I can track down a friend that has one. If not I'll buy one then.

Call a pro and don't guess it will be safer and cheaper in the long run.
