Hi all, I'm a new homeowner and I was in the basement earlier today and my oil tank (located in the basement) startred to make a very loud high-pitched screeching sound. The gauge (previously only half-full) started to go up and down. The sound lasted about 20 seconds and when it was done the gauge read full. I called my oil company and they have somone coming out to check it out but I was wondering if anyone has ever expereinced this before. Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks for the reply Jerry. I suspected that's what it was but when I spoke with my oil company they said I wasn't scheduled for a fill up until Thursday. Also they usually leave something on the door and I didn't see anything.
Turns out the company was wrong, they did deliver today. You guys were right, that was the sound. It's a scary thing though when you don't know what's going on. Thanks to all of you for your comments you guys really helped me out a lot.
