Oil tank fill and vent question

Adding a small bump-out (2’ x 5’x 8’ h) room to the outside of my house. However, my basement oil tank vent and fill are in the way. Want to add a 45 elbow and 24” to both so they will extend outside the new room.

Oil company told me all my piping was copper so it could not be extended, it all needed to be replaced with (2”) black pipe….$800 (5hrs labor @ $100 per hr + $300 in material)

Question –
Is there any code saying I can’t do this work myself?

Is there any cautions you would give me? (Besides no flames)

Thanks
Dave

Oil tank fill and vent question

Pretty sure the code for the vent to be 2" was repealed.

Made it so that the fill whistle wouldn't always whistle when it was suppose to.

Check with your local ode enforcement office, if you need a permit.

Should be no restriction gainst you doing it.
But, if your oil company, doesn't like the way its done. They are allowed to refuse to fill your tank.

Oil tank fill and vent question

Thanks.

Is the current code I should be looking at - NFPA 31
(http://www.kerrheating.com/TechInfo/...ank_guide.html)

These regulations show –

The fill pipe material shall be 2 in (50 mm) schedule 40 black steel pipe.
Vent pipe shall not be less than 1Ό in (30 mm) nominal diameter.
Air vent pipe with whistle alarm; install 2ft (600 mm) above fill pipe.
