Oil powered Hot Water Radiation with Baseboard Heaters

Hi everyone. I hope I'm posting this in the right section. If not, feel free to let me know!

We have oil powered hot water radiation heat in our home, with baseboard heaters. Is there any maintenance that should be done on a regular basis? There are no issues right now, but if there's any way to make it work more efficiently, I'm all for it.

Also, do you know of any good sites that provide information about this type of heating system?

Any oil fired device needs regular (usually yearly) maintenace - cleaning
Also usually a filter that is changed out by the oil tank

Thank you for your reply. Is this maintenance something we could do ourselves or is it something we need a professional to take care of? How do I know where to find the filter and how to replace it?

I know these may seem like simple items, but this is our first house and we've never dealt with these issues before, so any help you could give would be appreciated. I've done some google searches trying to find answers and haven't come up with much ... do you know of any good sites to reference?

well I have had a oil fired hot water boiler for over 30 years and normally have it cleaned by a professional on a yearly basis plus new nozzel and oil filter -- try to find one you like and you will use them for years and when you have a break down you will have a good relationship has always been my plan unfortunately (for my servicemen) my boiler has outlived 3 independent servicemen Good luck

I do a lot of DIY
Messing with an oil burner is not something I will touch
Hire a Pro to come clean it & change the filter
While you could probably change the oil filter I doubt you will save anything by doing so
Many companies charge a flat rate, ours does

The oil burner needs annual maintenance. A new nozzle and oil filter (not DIY items). Plus the unit should be adjusted properly by an experienced oil burner tech with a combustion analyzer for maximum efficiency or you will burn LOTS more oil/$$. The boiler flues need cleaning and the chimney inspected and sometimes cleaned. Radiators may need air bled out of them and the expansion tank drained every couple of years. Circulating pump oiled plus an overall inspection should be done.
