Oil furnace question

Hi,
I have a question regarding my oil furnace that is 16 years old and cleaned every year. The problem is when it comes on it pops and shuts off for about 2-3 seconds and then comes back on and continues to do this for the duration of the time that it is on. What could be the problem?

More information is needed on this.

I assume that there is a time when the furnace is not on, then the thermostat calls for heat and the unit fires up, then run awhile, then "pops" and shuts off then comes right back on?

Part of this sounds like short cycling.

If you are near the furnace, can you pin-point where the "pop" sound is coming from?

Furnace problem

Yes it is coming form the smoke stack. I also got oil last week and now I'm thinking that stirred up the sediment in the bottom of the tank and clogged something.

Thinking that it would be best to call in for service.
