Oil Furnace

Check if there are any tax breaks/incentives for new furnaces. If there are you may want to do it sooner than later, they sometimes expire and you don't want to lose out.

Turning all power to the furnace off is simply switching the emergency switch to the off position, correct?

Yes, shut the switch off and try reseting the button if nothing happens you got it.
Replacement sounds real good.
