oil burner wont ignite

So my weil mcclain oil burner started tripping last night. Just went down and reset it a few different times and it would fire back up. Well now when I press the reset NOTHING happens. I just hear a faint buzz in the box but the oil pump doesnt turn on nor do the electrodes try to light. Nothing is tripped. Any suggestions?

Probably didn't fire up the last 3 times you pressed it. or didn't sense flame the last 3 times, and is now in a lock out mode.

It needs to be checked to see what is causing the problem. Do you have tools to worko n it?

I dont have any specialty tools if those are needed. Its an older boiler, will they still lock out? If so, how do I unlock it?

How old is the burner.

You got to fix the original problem.

Unlocking it doesn't help if you don't fix it first. What model number is the primary control. The part with the reset button.

Your probably gonna need a new nozzle.
And will have to reset the electrodes after cleaning them up.

You might want to check to see if the reset on the burner motor is popped. if it is. You can reset it. And then push the reset on the primary.

If that works. You then have to figure out if its the motor or pump that is going out.

It was just tuned up before winter so it doesnt need anything and none of the resets are popped. NOTHING even tries to work and its getting power to the box. Does th eblower motor have to work for the electrodes to work?

Could be your primary control isn't working right/is bad.

Could be the cad cell is shorting out.

It needs something. If it didn't need anything, it would be working.

You should also check the flame sensor (the cats eye). I believe that on many models of burner, as previously noted, if the flame sensor fails to detect flame three times, either due to no flame or due to failure of the flame sensor, the burner locks out and you have to reset it before you can start it up. But heed the advice, you have to fix the underlying problem, which means you need to determine what the problem is. If you lack tools and expertise, you should probably call a service technician.

I believe Ive narrowed it down to the primary control. Using my voltmeter, I got 120v to the box but nothing to the wires that control the pump or transformer. Gonna replace it a report back.
