Odd Heater Issue?

At the frat house I manage we have through the wall heat and air conditioning units. It's like in hotel rooms. One complaint I have heard about them is that they occasionally hear a click, the fan ramps up, and the air blowing out of the unit is much colder than normal. This happens for about a minute and then the fan ramps down and it starts heating again.

I assume its not bad, but I am curious as to what is going on?

Odd Heater Issue?

I am interested in knowing why as well. Hopefully one of the pros will enlighten us.
