noisy blower on startup of NUGJ125DG03

This furnace was installed in 1988, well before I purchased the house, and has been very reliable until last week. It has started to make a loud squeaky noise on startup. I removed the covers and found the blower motor. It said it was permanently lubricated. I guess that means I shouldn't try lubing it but can I?

shut the service toggle on the furnace and free spin the motor squirrel cage in both directions any grinding or quick stop the bearings are dry.....check squirrel rounds for dirt all should be clean......might slide it out to see if you can lub them or for kicks spray some WD40 in witha tube extender and soak both ends f the motor...easy change out .but doa free spin test in place or slid out...

Could be bearings on the motor or the blower wheel starting to come apart. Either way I suggest hiring a tech trained in heat exchanger inspection to check it out before sinking any money into a 24 year old furnace. At that age it should be getting annual inspections before the heat is needed in the fall.

A cracked exchanger shows no symptoms of being bad in operation until those cracks open wide and the furnace belches out fire when the blower comes on. That's why it's important to get it checked every year on older furnaces.

thats a furnace by inner city products...... I think at 24 yrs old as mentioned have heat exchanger checked before spending money on this unit....sounds like motor going out...
