no heat for me

yep, i been bit, the furnace quit.

it is a TAPPAN, but it says NORDYNE on the inside, 2004.

the LED stays on (iirc it has always been on). the exhaust fan runs. after about 2+ second the LED flashes 2 times = pressure switch is open with inducer on.

the switch in pic 2. i turned that a few times. that got the HSI to fire. but after about 10 sec's it shut off and the LED flashed 2 times again.

please advice. i have a disabled person in this house.

ok. i got it working. but not totally fixed. its the pressure switch. yes, i checked the tube and chimney. inducer always worked.

i disconnected the wires from it. turned the furnace on = inducer starts blowing, THEN jump the PS wires. then the furnace operates.

after the furnace shuts off, i HAVE TO disconnect the jumper =otherwise the furnace will not work.

now, i have to find a PS locally.

Congrats, and glad to hear that you got it figured out! Winter is no time to be without a furnace, particularly with a disabled person in the house, and not that I would be sure enough to have offered any advice, but I did get a good chuckle out of your internet age version of talking to yourself! It can sometimes be entertaining watching someone talk themself through a problem, and I'm sure that others have been similarly entertained by me more than a few times, but seeing in on the 'net caused me to, well, again, chuckle. Stay warm!

yeah, that is kinda funny.

i have found the part $45 and 1 hour away :(. i am trying to find it closer. what a PITA.

ya know what is strange. the switch seemed to be working = i sucked through the hose, and could hear is clicking. ya know what, i'm going to check the port on the inducer. though i did blow through it.

Fix'n it 12-27-2012 11:39 AM

took the inducer off, it looked clean. stuck a paper clip through the whole, seemed to be clean. cage is clean. put back on.
took the pressure switch off. blew through hose real hard this time. worked switch with my mouth. reinstalled.

its working fine now. so far.

only thing i can think of, is the contacts. they looked ok. but i have fixed many electronics just by unpluging and repluging connections inside several times. seems they get unseen corrosion on them.

FWI, the PS is a safety switch....did U eliminate all the reasons that would cause it to stop the furnace from working?

yes, i know that now. i didn't know it even had one in the first place.

i couldn't find a concrete reason why it wasn't working. i checked all i knew to check :
i disconnected the flue, so it not the chimney.
inducer always blew.
switch always clicked. though it could still be bad contacts inside it, time will tell.
hose & port free.
getting a signal.

what else is there ?

its the connections. it acted up 2 times after i logged off. i just wiggle the connections a little and it started working again. so i replugged them a bunch of times. crossing fingers. but at least i know what it is.

Don't "Grease" contacts! You will insulate them and stop current flow when they close!

just close the spades a bit tighter with your pliers, make them grab a bit better.
