new t- stat problem

Installed a new T-stat and when system is on in heat mode, AC condenser fan is also running. Unit is only in heat mode not cooling. Ambient temp outside is 10 deg F. Never noticed condenser running in winter before I changed t-stat.

The white wire which is included with the bundle of four or five wires is the heating wire, most likely.

Is this a heat pump and can you take some pics of the wiring?

If you have a jumper between RC and RH then you have to make sure you have the heat-cool-off switch set to heat.
Also it could be bare wires touching each other.I seen way too many stats wired where they have peeled the insulation off too far and when you tighten the stat to the base the wires touch.
If it was working before it should work with a new stat.

shut that disconnect OFF outside or knock the condenser breaker down your short cycling the condenser/compressor with it being 10F outside....check down on the furnace for color/lettering IDs from the stat wire drop
