New High Efficiency Gas Furnace & Hot Water Heater
 
I am installing both a new gas furnace and a new gas hot water heater. Both are high efficiency appliances that can be vented with PVC (exhaust & intake). My question is, can I tie the two appliances together to reduce the penetrations from four to two? If not, how far apart do the terminations have to be spaced? Both appliances will be installed in the basement and vented through the wall. Also, what rules are there for proximity to windows or doors?

No you cannot. If you read the literature from either of the 2 units, it will state as such.

Your local venting code may vary, but here it's no vent within 10' of any window or door, or other venting apparatus such as bathroom exhaust, clothes dryers, kitchen fume hoods, through-wall a/c, etc...

Thanks, haven't purchased the equipment yet so haven't read the literature. Just planning on where my penetrations will need to go.
