New Furnace or...?

Hi,
I'm purchasing my first home & have had a home inspection done. The inspector said the electirc furnace is 30 yrs old, but in good repair. He mentioned that 1 of the 5 elements is disconnected (I'm assuming because it's burnt out). Approximately how much would it be to replace this element? Can a guy with decent home improvement knowledge do it himself? If I can't (or shouldn't), how much would a typical house call be to replace it? Should I be looking at replacing the furnace itself or should I wait until it actually dies?
-Thanks!

New Furnace or...?

The one element may have been disconnected because the electric line to the unit isn't large enough. might want to check that first.
